Jetty’s Restaurant has been put on the market after its owner of more than seven years, Nalin Karia, decided to call it quits.

Mr Karia has spent the past four months negotiating the sale of the business to an interested buyer, however the deal fell through.

Jetty’s Restaurant has been operating at Hillarys Quay for about 15 years.

Mr Karia told Gusto he was selling the restaurant because he wanted a change of pace.

“I’m getting old and I’m tired,” he says. “I’ve been here seven years now and I reached the stage where I had to contribute another five years, and I didn’t want to.”

Allanson, a town eight kilometres west of Collie, is now home to its own microbrewery, Brew 42. The brewery opened a couple of weeks ago and brews four different beers – RedTale, PowerHouse Pale Ale, Bucks Bitter and a stout called Moorhead. The names sound unusual at first but, with a little context, they make perfect sense. The brewery is located near Moorhead railway and the Muja Power Station while a Red Tail cockatoo is found locally. As for Bucks? Well, one of the owners, Andy Pimm grew up in Buckingham. Brew 42 is the result of Allen Shaw turning his brewing hobby into a business.

Brew 42’s liquor licence only allows patrons to buy 100ml tastings, however, Mrs Shaw said they hoped to get an alternative licence in the future so that they can offer more products and offer food, such as wood-fired pizzas.

Helping cook breakfast for about 100 people last month has paid off for renowned butcher Vince Garreffa and chefs Graeme Shapiro and Don Hancey.

The talented foodies are part of the WA branch of La Chaine des Rotisseurs (a society made up of some of Perth’s most serious food and wine lovers).

Donations raised from the breakfast came in at more than $20,000, eclipsing previous records for the annual event. La Chaine des Rotisseurs said the bulk of the proceeds would be provided to Lifeline WA while a small portion would be shares with La Chaine’s youth development program.

The program encourages the development of young Western Australians in the food, wine and catering industries.
