THE events around Perth this new year promise to be just as spectacular as the fireworks. From gala balls to wine dinners, there is a host of functions to keep the eyes open until the wee hours on New Year’s Day.
Here’s the run down on this year’s New Year’s Eve parties.
Bells Estate
$100pp. Gourmet smorgasbord dinner, Gloucester Ridge Wines and live entertainment from The Executives. Bells Estate, previously Mulberry Farm, is a fair journey for a New Year’s Eve party but don’t worry about having a few champers, as a complimentary bus service will start home at 1am and get you to the Burswood Casino (where you could continue to party).
Boat Torque
New Year’s Eve Cruise, $99pp. Four hours of river cruising, three-course buffet meal at Bells Estate, depart Bells Estate at 12.30am. The cruise leaves Barrack St Jetty at 6.30pm.
Burswood
Party Under the Stars, $150pp. Black tie event for a party beside the Resort’s new outdoor pool. Cocktails served on arrival followed by a three-course buffet dinner. Live music performed by Kick.
C Restaurant
“A Night with the Stars”, a Vegas Casino-style gala party: $180pp. This is one of the hugest party’s Perth will see this year. Starting with a screening of the film Oceans 11, C claims it’s an Australian premier of the film, which stars some Hollywood hotshots (Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and George Clooney). You’ll then get a limousine transfer to C, where you’ll get the full red carpet entrance, followed by glam finger food, martinis and champagne cocktails. There will be a DJ to ensure the dance floor will be buzzing and I’m told there will also be casino-style games and live entertainers. This party will turn the C Restaurant into a Vegas casino and should prove spectacular.
Fraser’s
Evans and Tate Classic Ball, $155pp. Cocktail dress for a night of elegant celebration. Five-piece band Undercover and DJ Casey will take care of the live entertainment as you enjoy the feasts at Fraser’s.
Your ticket buys Evans and Tate wines, canapes, and the oppor-tunity to graze at the oyster bar, café style eatery, cigar lounge and cock-
tail bar.
Fraser’s Dinner, $120pp. Little Black Dress will perform classics from the 60s through to today’s current radio hits. The set menu includes a good range of dishes, including lobster and salmon. Dress is cocktail.
Gloucester Park
Fireworks and Races, $20 per adult, $25 on the night. Live entertainment from three live bands, roving entertainers, face painters and other festivities. Bring your own picnic basket or purchase food at the venue. If you’re after some glamour, the next four options are worth a look.

The Beau Rivage Restaurant: Tiered Seating $125pp, Top Tier Flat Area $110 pp. See the fireworks from the grandstand and enjoy a full international seafood banquet buffet from Spices Catering and premium beer and champagne.
Private Boxes, $130 pp. Host a private party. International seafood buffet and premium drinks.
The Binshaw Room, $90pp. Intimate social setting on the ground floor. Seafood buffet and premium drinks.
The Radiant Oro, $85pp. First floor with tiered seating with great views of the trotting track. Seafood buffet and premium drinks.
Hotel Rendezvous
Masquerade Ball, $140pp. 8pm-1.00am. Six-course plated menu, premium wines and beer. Live entertainment for a night of masquerading. This is a black tie event. Phone the hotel and let them know you are attending the ball for special room rates.
Hyatt
New Year’s Eve Dinner at the café, $110 pp. Cold, hot, and dessert buffets.
Gershwin’s, $145pp. Three-course set menu plus wines.
LinQ: $175pp. Linda Mead is renowned for parties so this event should go off with relatively few hitches. This will be a sophisticated Parisian-style sit down dinner. There will be live music playing while you feast on a four-course dinner. Premium beer and wines will be served for this party, which will wind up at 1am.
Parmelia Hilton
New Year’s Eve Ball, $140pp. Four-course dinner and wines, live music, and a traditional Scottish piper.
Sheraton
Origins Restaurant, Twist n Swing $110, food only, $159.50 with beverages. 7.30pm-1.00am. Bassline Benny will have you swinging in the new year and the Origins kitchen will be producing an impressive four-course meal.
Monterey’s Brasserie, 6pm-8pm, $59per adult, $30 per child. 8pm onwards (including Lobby Lounge from 11pm) $69 per adult, $35 per child. Buffet dinner and complimentary glass of wine on arrival.
Lobby Lounge, Latino Carnevale, $59.50pp. Latino band Candela, seafood buffet, hot buffet, and carvery selection. 7pm till late.
Universal Bar
Dinner and party, $200pp. 7pm-2am and includes dinner and beverages. Smart casual to black tie attire is required for this evening of great food, blues and jazz.
Dessert and party only, $120pp. Join the party at 10pm when the dinner tables will be cleared away to make room for the dance floor. Amanda Dee will play tunes until the wee hours of the new year. This party closes at 2am.
All in all it sounds like a great way to see in 2002. My, how time flies.
