Aside from the shopping precinct, the CBD can be a pretty desolate place on a Sunday afternoon.

But a luncheon to be held by e cucina, located in the heart of the city in Central Park on Sunday April 13, might change that, for one Sunday at least.

The contemporary Italian restaurant is putting on a long table degustation lunch under the trees of Central Park, which includes six courses matched with wines, complemented by jazz music from the Deb McIntyre Quartet.

The event will start at 1.30pm and stretch into the early evening.

It is open to individuals, couples and groups and is $145 per person all inclusive.

••• The Swan Valley will come to life with the Taste of the Valley festival to be held over four weekends in April.

More than 25 venues are offering a wide range of festival activities such as wine tastings, customised menus, musical entertainment, demonstrations, tours and art exhibitions.

Jane Brook Estate will offer a tasting menu that includes a selection of three wines matched with a selection of three gastronomic tastes for $10.

The ‘3+3 equals $10’ menu, set up for the festival, will have three tastes of morsels such as duck rillettes, jerk pork belly, green prawn curry, ceviche of scallop, beef tartar with quail egg and gazpacho matched with wines from the Swan Valley and Margaret River.

Lamont’s has designed a new autumn menu matched to their new 2007 Verdelho, one of the region’s specialties.

Edgecombe Brothers also has designed a new autumn tasting plate, which features the new season asparagus picked fresh from their veggie patch.

Clarification Great Southern Distilling Company director Cameron Syme has contacted Gusto to say that, while he aspires to become a full-time distiller, it hasn’t been possible just yet.

So contrary to what was reported in the February 21 edition, Mr Syme hasn’t turned his back on his law career.
