Applications for small bar licences are continuing to trickle through to the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor, with the authority registering its 10th application. One recent application is for a bar in Leederville to be called Bar Rosso Wines, which will open in an old building on Oxford Street that is currently being restored. The small bar licence application has been made by Profit Management Group Pty Ltd, which is owned by Paul, Mark and Garry Griffin.

Swan Valley’s Mash Brewing has released its first beer to the retail market. Called Mex, the beer is a Mexican-style lager that, according to the Mash team, has an enticing hop aroma and flavour with a light body and a refreshing finish. Helping get its Mex on to the retail shelves is former Palandri Wines executive Michael Ritchie, who has been recruited as the brewer’s national sales manager.

Mr Ritchie will be developing Mash’s distribution and sales channels Australia wide. The micro brewer opened its doors in the Swan Valley in April 2006 and has since spread its wings to Bunbury, developing a second brewery in the South West town.

Fraser’s chef Greg Farnan has taken over the reins of the former Old Swan Brewery restaurant, after Chris Taylor and other investors bought the business. Mr Taylor already operates three water -view restaurants – Kings Park’s Fraser’s, Bluewater Grill in Applecross, and Cottesloe’s Indiana.

The new Mounts Bay Road business, formerly operated by Lion Nathan, has already had a name change to The Old Brewery Bar and Grill, and its menu has been taken up a notch with high quality meats the order of the day.
