Big field wins web awards

Leederville-based website designer and developer Sumo Group and Subiaco-based Freckle Creative were equally matched at the third annual WA Web Awards, each winning two prizes from 13 categories.

Duncraig-based graphic design studio Moments of Colour Design was awarded the "Fast-Hit Most Outstanding" award for its self-designed website.

The awards, from the Australian Web Industry Association, are the largest of their kind in Australia.

Western Australia's best Web Designers and Developers have been honoured with awards in 13 categories at the third annual WA Web Awards.

WA Web Awards Chairman, Myles Eftos, said website designers, developers and business people nominated in record numbers for the Awards, which are the biggest event of its type in the country.

According to Markus Weichselbarm from Gold Sponsor, TheBroth.com, "WA is quickly shaping up to become the Silicon Valley of Australia."

The big winners included Leederville-based Sumo group, which won two categories and was a triple finalist in the Corporate Category.

Small graphic design studio, Moments of Colour Design, which produces cards and invitations, won the "Fast-Hit Most Outstanding" award for their own website.

The dinner and presentation on Friday night, the 17th of August, was an official event organised by AWIA, the Australian Web Industry Association (formerly Port80 Inc) and was hosted by Gerry Gannon at Perth's Duxton Hotel.

Awards Gold Sponsor, Edith Cowan University was delighted with the quality of the student finalists' entries.
