Bidders shortlisted for Murdoch Medihotel

Five bidders have been shortlisted to build the state’s first Medihotel at the planned Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, with the successful tenderer to be announced mid-year.

LandCorp received 11 submissions for the new facility, to be located next to the Fiona Stanley Hospital, with five of those shortlisted (but not named).

The Medihotels were a key promise of the state government’s plan for the state. The facilities are designed to support recuperating patients and allow family members to stay with patients, while freeing up hospital beds so more patients can be treated.

Lands Minister Rita Saffioti said that, over a 10 to 15-year period, the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct would deliver 1,200 residences, about 175,000 square metres of floor space including commercial, health, research, residential, and short-stay or hotel accommodation.

"It forms part of the broader Murdoch Activity Centre, which is set to become one of the biggest and most vibrant employment hubs in the state,” she said.

"It will make the most of established transit, health and education infrastructure, create about 35,000 jobs, deliver new homes for 22,000 Western Australians and cater for up to 44,000 students."

The 9.6-hectare site will be delivered in two stages, with stage one incorporating seven lots ranging from 2,324sqm to 5,955sqm suitable for land uses that are health related, mixed use or providing for residential apartments.
