US-based ice-cream chain Ben & Jerry’s is gearing up to open its second bricks and mortar store in Perth, with the franchise to take the place of the Milk & Honey cafe on James Street in Northbridge.
Recent documents lodged with the City of Perth include a fit-out application worth $260,000 and a request for signage at the site, at 82-86 James Street, which has been home to Milk & Honey since 2009.
The applications follow Ben & Jerry’s opening a store at Hillarys Boat Harbour in August last year, while the ice-cream giant has also been selling its wares from the Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Wagon based at the Perth Cultural Centre since midway through 2013.
The eye-catching caravan was initially only going to be stationed at Perth Cultural Centre for a three-month period, but its popularity with punters led it to become a permanent fixture.
A spokesperson for Ben & Jerry’s would not confirm exactly when the Northbridge store was planned to be opened.
However, once it is open, it will compete with six other ice cream shops in close proximity – Gelare, Amore Gelato, Cold Rock Ice Creamery, Delish Ice, Meet Fresh and Icey Ice.
