The state government has signed a new agreement with the international wing of the Japan Finance Corporation, in an effort to foster business links with the country.

Premier Colin Barnett announced a memorandum of understanding with the corporation today, saying it would strengthen the support provided to Japanese companies looking to do business in Western Australia’s minerals, energy and resources sectors.

“The MOU marks the first time JBIC will have concluded such an agreement with a satate, indicating the importance Japan places on a relationship with WA,” the Premier said.

“The agreement will allow the state government, through the department of state development, and JBIC to exchange information on potential investments at periodic meetings.

“It is expected this closer relationship will reinforce JBIC’s support for Japanese companies’ investments in WA.”
