PETROLEUM giant BP has built and commissioned two new diesel storage tanks at its Port Hedland terminal, cementing its position as the largest fuel storage facility in the Pilbara.

The new tanks form part of a $50 million investment by the company to improve infrastructure and customer fuel offerings in the region and have increased BP’s fuel storage capacity by more than 60 per cent.

President of BP Australasia Paul Waterman said the investment was a sign of the company’s commitment to the mining sector.

“We have been in Port Headland for the last 50 years and this new infrastructure is just one element of the continuing development of our customer fuel offer in the Pilbara region,” Mr Waterman said.

The next phase of the $50 million investment at Port Hedland involves upgrades to the terminal’s truck loading gantry system, to improve truck-loading times.

BP is the largest supplier of fuel to Australia’s mining and industrial sector and has invested more than $400 million in terminals nationwide.
