The partnership between BHP and the Department of Education will continue for a further 12 months, with millions of dollars committed to extend the program.

BHP has committed more than $3 million to extend the BHP Pilbara Education partnership for the 2024 school year, the state government announced today.

The partnership has been ongoing since 2005, becoming the biggest industry and government relationship in regional Western Australia, according to the state government.

It will be continued at schools in Newman, Port Hedland and surrounding areas.

The extended partnership will focus on the early years of education and pathways to employment or further study for senior students.

“In secondary schools, we’ve seen improved academic results, increased attendance and a reduction in student suspensions,” Education Minister Tony Buti said.

“For the younger children, there’s improved health outcomes, as well as greater participation and engagement of parents in students’ learning.”

The Rise Up program will continue at Hedland and Newman senior high schools under the partnership.

The program aims to increase leadership opportunities and individual improvement goals for students.
