A BHP Billiton spokesperson has confirmed a worker has died at its Pilbara operations early this morning.
The incident took place at around 3:30am on BHP Billiton Iron Ore's main train line some 74 kilometres south of Port Hedland.
The spokesperson said the rail line and rail operations have been suspended until further notice, and declined to give further details for the time being.
The ABC reported the worker was killed after being hit by a train.
The Department of Mines and Petroleum are investigating the incident.
