NOMINATIONS are now open for the Western Australian Family Business Awards.

Businesses can be nominated for four main categories – first, second, third and fourth generation family business. There are also two commendation awards – youth in family business and best family business employer.

Nominations close on May 31 and the winners will be announced at a gala awards night to be held on July 16.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from www.wabusinessnews.com.au

It costs $100 to nominate a family business for the awards. The nomination fee also buys a ticket to the awards night.

Winners from the WA awards will go on to compete for the honour of being named the best Australian family business in their category. Those awards will be announced on October 23 in Hobart, where the fifth national Family Business Australia conference is being held.

Last year 43 family businesses nominated for the WA awards and 17 finalists contested the six prizes on offer.

Messages on Hold Australia won the first generation award, Homestyle won the second generation award, Pilpel Print won the third generation award and WD Moore won the fourth generation award.

WD Moore then went on to win the national fourth generation award.

STS Health was named best family business employer and Perth Auto Parts won the Youth in Family Business Award.
