Avoca appoints Tony James as mining general manager

Emerging Perth gold company Avoca Resources has appointed Tony James as General Manager - Mining, effective from February 27 2006.
Mr James has 20 years of open pit and underground mining experience in both project development and operations management, and prior to his Avoca appointment he was general manager - mining for LionOre's Australian Operations.
Mr James' previous roles include general manager at the Black Swan nickel mine, mining manager at the Kanowna Belle gold mine, manager mining Lennard Shelf zinc and lead mines and senior engineering roles at the Telfer gold mine.
Mr James will be responsible for completing the Trident definitive feasibility study at its Higginsville project in the state's south-east, and managing the Company's transition to becoming a gold producer.

KEY APPOINTMENT TO FACILITATE HIGGINSVILLE MINE DEVELOPMENT

The Board of Avoca Resources Limited (Avoca or the Company) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Anthony (Tony) James to the role of General Manager - Mining, effective 27 February 2006. Mr James has 20 years of open pit and underground mining experience in both project development and operations management. Prior to his appointment to Avoca, Mr James was General Manager - Mining for LionOre's Australian Operations where over the last 12 months he has been involved in numerous development and operational projects associated with LionOre's Australian operations.
Mr James' previous roles include General Manager at the Black Swan nickel mine (MPI Mines Ltd); Manager Mining at the Kanowna Belle gold mine (Delta Gold Ltd / AurionGold Ltd); Manager Mining Lennard Shelf zinc and lead mines (Western Metals Ltd) and senior engineering roles at the Telfer gold mine (Newcrest Ltd).
Upon joining Avoca, Mr James will be responsible for completing the Trident definitive feasibility study and managing the Company's transition to becoming a gold producer. As part of the transition to gold producer status, Mr James will also oversee open-pit optimisation studies to be undertaken on updated resource estimation studies currently being completed on several un-mined resources at Higginsville.
The appointment of Mr James marks a significant step in achieving Avoca's objective of becoming a gold mining company in 2006 following its discovery of the exciting Trident gold project.
