Australia has achieved an extraordinary win in the second Test against Pakistan after building an unexpectedly large target of 176 runs and then bundling out their opponents for a mere 139 runs.

On the fourth day at the Sydney Cricket Ground, it initially seemed the Aussies were set to have their 176-run target eclipsed by the visitors with a day left to play.

Pakistan were all out for 139 after 38 overs of Australian bowling.

Spinner Nathan Hauritz claimed the victory for the Australian side and his fifth scalp for the day by removing fellow spin bowler, Danish Kaneria for a duck.

This occurred shortly after Hauritz removed pace bowler Umar Gul for six runs and Mohammad Sami for two runs.

Earlier Mitchell Johnson took the wicket of Kamran Akmal for 11 runs thanks to the safe hands of wicket-keeper Brad Haddin.

Hauritz took his first two wickets after tea, catching Mohammad Yousuf off one of his own deliveries for 19 runs, and dispatching of Misbah-ul-Haq for a duck.

That was after Doug Bollinger picked up opening batsman Imran Farhat for 22 which was soon followed by Johnson sending Salman Butt and Imran Farhat back to the pavillion for 21 and 7 runs respectively.

Led by Western Australia's Mike Hussey, who set an unbeaten 134 after running out of batting partners, Australia scored 381 in their second innings to set Pakistan a target of 176 runs.
