Perth-based contractor AusGroup has recruited former Southern Cross Electrical Engineering boss Simon High as chief executive of its engineering services arm.

The Singapore-listed company said Mr High would assume the role immediately and would be based out of its local headquarters.

Gerard Hutchinson, who has filled the CEO position since May last year, will continue as managing director of AusGroup, based in Singapore.

AusGroup chairman Stuart Kenny said the board was extremely pleased to welcome Mr High to the company.

Mr High has proven experience in capital projects and maintenance contracting roles,” Mr Kenny said.

“His knowledge and executive experience will be of great value to the group as the resource lifecycle continues to transition from capex growth to operational enhancement.”

Mr High retired as chief executive of SCEE last year after spending nearly five years in the position.

Prior to his tenure at SCEE, Mr High held senior management and executive positions at Clough, United Construction and Kvaerner Oil and Gas.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

His remuneration was not disclosed.
