Perth investment bank Argonaut has bolstered its research team by recruiting Hayden Bairstow, who had been head of emerging resources research at Macquarie Equities.

He will be part of Argonaut’s five-member research team, which is headed by Ian Christie.

Argonaut said Mr Bairstow will join as a member of the firm’s senior leadership team and become a “meaningful” shareholder.

Executive chairman Eddie Rigg said Argonaut prided itself on its technical merits and sector leadership.

“We are pleased to have a thought leader and opinion maker of his calibre join our firm,” he said.

Mr Bairstow’s appointment, which will take effect after he completes 'gardening' leave, follows the retirement of research veteran John Macdonald.

The firm said Mr Macdonald will continue in a consulting role in its funds management division, including as a member of the investment committee of Argonaut’s Global Precious Metals Fund.

Mr Bairstow has 20 years’ experience in investment banking and stockbroking across Australia.

At Macquarie, he managed a team of five analysts covering nearly 70 emerging resources companies listed on the ASX.

He commenced his career in Perth with DJ Carmichael and Paterson Securities.

Argonaut provides financial advisory, stockbroking, research and funds management services with a focus on the natural resources sector.
