Vorster CEO for Iron Ore Holdings

Iron Ore Holdings has appointed Alwyn Vorster as chief executive officer. Mr Vorster joins IOH from his current role as director business development of Oakajee Port and Rail. He previously held senior roles with Kumba Resources, a subsidiary of Anglo American, and Rio Tinto Iron Ore.

Esperance Ports Sea and Land moves

Bob McKinnon (pictured) has been appointed chair of the Esperance Ports Sea and Land board. Mr McKinnon was most recently a non-executive director of Bankwest and managing director of Fleetwood Corporation. Stefan Frodsham has been appointed to the board, replacing Phil Thick. Mr Frodsham was previously chief executive officer with the Broome Port Authority.

Jong, Klopper join MGI as associates

Business advisory and accounting firm MGI Perth has appointed former Ord Nexia principals Kosol Jong and Theuns Klopper as associate directors in audit and corporate services.

McClellan resigns from CEDA

Robin McClellan has resigned as WA state director of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia to take up a senior role in Singapore with international oil and gas company, ExxonMobil. Her resignation will take effect from November 24. Hamilton Calder will act as WA state director in addition to his role as SA/NT state director.

Smith new Viva GM

Viva Photography has appointed Byron Smith as general manager. Mr Smith is the former managing director of MYO Australia and a WA Business News 40under40 Award winner.

Matheson to Financial Planning board

Julie Matheson has been elected to The Financial Planning Association’s national board. Ms Matheson is a director of Sovereign Bridge.

Smith MD at MYO

Retail sandwich and salad franchise MYO Australia has appointed John Smith as managing director. Mr Smith has owned franchises and was previously contracted to a master franchisee-training role with SNAP printing in China.

New role for Wakeling

The joint office of the WA Olympic Council and Australian Commonwealth Games Association/WA division has appointed Simon Wakeling as executive officer/office manager, taking over the role from current executive officer Melissa Joss, who is preparing to take maternity leave. Mr Wakeling has been with the joint office since 2007.

Maguire moves to Murdoch

David Maguire has been appointed associate professor of journalism and media management at Murdoch University. Professor Maguire returns to Australia after more than three years in senior management and editorial roles with the English-language Shanghai Daily in China.

New Curtin position for Vorenberg

Curtin University has appointed Jo Vorenberg campaign and brand manager. Ms Vorenberg’s previous positions include manager of marketing at Curtin, head of marketing at City Farmers and senior marketing and product manager at Vesco Foods.

Safstrom, Patrick to PB

Parsons Brinckerhoff has appointed environmental scientists Jenny Safstrom and Naomi Patrick to its WA environmental team in response to the expanding project pipeline. Ms Safstrom and Ms Patrick have expertise in environmental impact assessment and management across the land development and mining sectors
