New CAPS role for Cary

CAPS Australia has appointed Rick Cary to the role of managing director. Mr Cary has served as CAPS chief financial officer for the past two years, since commencing as company secretary in May 1997. Mr Cary has an intimate knowledge of the company, and has played an integral role in the growth of CAPS.

Cowan to head ag review

Education Minister Liz Constable has appointed Hendy Cowan to chair what will be the first specific broad-based review of agricultural education conducted in WA since 1981. The review will identify current and future requirements of the agricultural sector in WA for university graduates and examine whether agricultural education is presently being fully catered for by the university sector or training sector.

McGrath new DPP

Joseph McGrath has been appointed as Director of Public Prosecutions for WA. Mr McGrath has 20 years of varied litigation practice, with a focus on the area of complex criminal matters and law enforcement issues. He has worked as a barrister-at-law at Francis Burt Chambers and has defence counsel experience in a range of areas, including complex corporate matters. He has acted as a counsel assisting the Royal Commission into the Finance Broking Industry and the Royal Commission into the WA Police Force. Mr McGrath commenced his position as the DPP on Monday February 1.

Precedent new in Perth

UK company Precedent Communications has opened its first Australian office, in Perth. With 20 years’ experience and a team of 70, the company has offices in London, Cardiff and Edinburgh. Precedent works with clients in government, health, education, the-not-for-profit sector, as well as commercial and professional services. Sean Gardiner and Stina Frantzich Gardiner are heading up the office in Perth.

Schwartz to Quickflix

Perth-based online DVD rental and movie subscription company Quickflix has appointed Hannah Schwartz as chief marketing officer. Based in Sydney, the new executive position has been created to drive subscriber and revenue growth in major national markets. The appointment of a CMO follows that of entertainment industry executive Michael Snow as head of content in Sydney, and technologist Tim Parsons as head of product development and technology.

Maxted PRIA president

Freelance media and public relations consultant Tanyia Maxted is the new president of the Public Relations Institute of Australia WA division. PR lecturer at Curtin University, Katharina Wolf, has been appointed vice-president, and Phil Glew of Glew Corporate Communication will take on the role of treasurer and fellows representative.

Speering to Marks & Sands

Michaela Speering has joined Marks & Sands Lawyers as a senior solicitor practising in the areas of wills and estate planning, estates, general litigation and family law. Ms Speering was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in August 2005. During the past four years she has been employed in a general practice firm based in the South West of WA.

Change at Adstream

Advertising distribution and workflow specialist, Adstream, has announced a number of structural changes to its management and operations team, including the appointment of Steve Davis (pictured) as its new head of sales and marketing. Mr Davis has more than 15 years’ experience in the advertising industry, holding various management positions at a number of blue-chip creative agencies. Jamie Davidson, formerly business development manager for print and publishing, has accepted the new role of head of print and online, while former NZ account manger, Emma Taylor, will take up the trans-Tasman role of head of broadcast.
