McKiernan Murdoch dean

Murdoch University has appointed Peter McKiernan as its new dean of the Murdoch Business School. Professor McKiernan was previously head of Strathclyde Business School’s Department of Management and prior to that held the chair of management at St Andrews University in Scotland for 19 years.

Montgomery new Forge CFO

Engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction firm Forge Group has appointed Donald Montgomery (pictured) as chief financial officer, from mid-October. Mr Montgomery was previously CFO of the freight division at QR National, and has also held senior finance positions at Leighton Contractors. He replaces Andrew Bell, who remains as company secretary and fills a new position of executive general manager finance.

Naracoota restructure

Acting chief executive officer Daniel Hewitt has completed his duties for gold and copper explorer Naracoota Resources. Exploration manager Martin Dormer has been appointed acting CEO while the board considers a permanent option.

Gale is COALAR member

Latin Resources managing director Chris Gale has been appointed as a board member to the Council on Australia Latin America Relations. COALAR was established by the national government in 2001 to enhance Australia’s economic, political and social relations with Latin America.

Smith heads McLaren’s

Byron Smith has been promoted to the newly created role of chief executive officer at vehicle rental operation McLaren’s Raw Hire. Mr Smith joined the company a year ago as general manager, and prior to that was general manager at Viva Life Photography and manager director at MYO. McLaren’s was a WA Business News Rising Stars award recipient this year.

Hanrahan chairs SRK

Simon Hanrahan has replaced Mike Warren as chairman of SRK Consulting, an environmental services firm that provides mineral resources consulting services from exploration to mine closure. Mr Hanrahan was previously principal consultant at SRK and worked for Rio Tinto prior to joining the company in 2010. Mr Warren will continue in his role as corporate consultant (project evaluations) based in Sydney.

Cureton joins Squire Sanders

Cris Cureton has been appointed as a construction partner in the international dispute resolution practice at law firm Squire Sanders. Mr Cureton previously established the Minter Ellison Darwin office as a foundation partner in 2003. 

Gubbins to HBF

Not-for-profit insurance business HBF has appointed Kieron Gubbins as corporate health manager. Mr Gubbins was previously corporate solutions executive at Commonwealth Bank.
