New trade rep in China

Nathan Backhouse has been appointed as the state government’s regional director, China at the WA trade office in Shanghai. Mr Backhouse has previously served in China with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and was also formerly director of international trade and investment at the WA Department of State Development. Mr Backhouse replaces Bin Jun Zhuang, who has been WA’s senior China representative since 1994 and will now remain in China working with an Australian resources company.

New Swan River Trust chair

Former deputy chairman Mick Poole has been promoted to chairman of the Swan River Trust board, following the resignation of eight-year veteran Jim Freemantle. Trust member Jason Berry will become deputy chairman, while DLA Piper Australia senior associate Barbara Watroba and Department of Planning nominee Lindsay Baxter have been newly appointed as board members.

Davies heads SIA

The Submarine Institute of Australia has appointed Steve Davies as its first executive director. Mr Davies is a consultant to the defence industry, and is a former Royal Australian Navy commodore and Submarine Force commander.

Bamford to Doray

Minerals explorer Doray Minerals has appointed Peter Bamford as operations manager. Mr Bamford was previously the general manager – challenger operations and development for Kingsgate Consolidated, and has also worked for MIM and Metana/Gold Mines of Australia.

Sartori moves to PwC

Paul Sartori has been appointed to establish and lead accounting firm PwC’s corporate and commercial legal team in Perth. Mr Sartori was previously special counsel at Blake Dawson

Davies joins Image

Mineral explorer Image Resources has appointed Peter Davies as project manager for its North Perth Basin mineral sands project. Mr Davies was previously general manager Chandala for Tiwest.

Cooksley joins Archistone

Archistone Besser Masonry Products has appointed Craig Cooksley as business development manager. Mr Cooksley was previously the commercial sales & business development manager at Boral Bricks WA. 

New management for Empired

Brett Gresele has been appointed as general manager managed services, Mike Luyckx as business development manager strategic services and Don Beer as business development manager energy & natural resources. Mr Gresele joins from ASG Limited, while Mr Luyckx has come from CSG Limited. Mr Beer was previously with Computer Sciences Corporation in business development roles.

PGA retains board

The Pastoralists and Graziers Association has re-elected Rob Gillam for a fifth term as president. Vice-presidents Tony Seabrook and Ruth Webb-Smith, and treasurer Bevan Henderson were also unanimously re-elected.
