Upper house politician Anthony Fels has quit the Liberal party today to establish a new political force, 'People Against Daylight Saving'.
ABC Radio reported Mr Fels as saying the move was not a bid to save his ailing career.
In June, Mr Fels moved an unsuccessful spill motion to oust leader Troy Buswell and replace him with former Liberal leader Matt Birney.
