The State Government has announced that Ansaldo STS Australia has been awarded a $19.7 million signalling contract to be undertaken on the Butler rail project.

The Perth office of the international signalling and transportation solutions company signed the contract with the Public Transport Authority last week, and work is due to start almost immediately.

Transport minister Troy Buswell said the work will be undertaken between Clarkson station and the new Butler station on the Joondalup line.

“The contract covers the detailed design and construction of the railway signalling system for the $240 million Butler Extension Project,” Mr Buswell said.

“The signalling system will enable the safe and efficient operation of the railway by keeping a safe separation between trains; monitoring route integrity; and supervising train braking and speed limits.”

The Butler rail project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2014.
