International law firm Allen & Overy has secured local energy and resources lawyer, Angus Jones from leading Australian outfit Allens Arthur Robinson enhancing A&O's Perth-based energy group.

The appointment follows Allen & Overy's move to Western Australian soil earlier this year.

At the time the international firm approached a number of Perth's top lawyers, taking 15 Clayton Utz partners and solicitors, three of which were in WA.

Mr Jones has more than 20 years experience with a particular focus on LNG, upstream oil and gas transactions/acquisitions, gas sales and gas pipeline arrangements, and renewable energy and mining projects.

Allen & Overy managing partner in Perth, Geoff Simpson welcomed the appointment in light of the importance of the energy and resources sectors in Australia's legal market.

"Angus is one of Australia's leading energy and resources lawyers and his arrival significantly bolsters our offering to clients, allowing the corporate practice to fully service the many opportunities and transactions available in Australia and in markets such as Japan, China, India, Korea, Indonesia and Singapore," Mr Simpson said in a statement.

Mr Jones had been a partner with Allens Arthur Robinson since 1997, advising clients in relation to many of Australia's and the region's most significant energy and resources projects.

Mr Jones' new place of employment said he is consistently recognised as one of the country's leading lawyers by global directories such as Chambers, Legal Profiles and Legal Who's Who while being actively involved in industry groups, a contributor to international oil and gas publications and tutors in Oil & Gas specialist courses.
