Perth-based surface treatment technology firm Alexium International has received an additional purchase order for 100 yards of specially treated materials from the United States’ Department of Defense.

The materials will be used for the DoD’s Natick Soldier System Centre in a technology demonstration, which will guide the development of next-generation protective equipment for soldiers.

Alexium said the latest order was for its water, oil and chemical agent repellency treatments.

The company said a key feature of its technology was the breathability and flame retardant properties of the treated fabrics.

Alexium and the US Air Force have been expanding the applications for Alexium's reactive surface treatment (RST) technology for both civilian and military markets over the past year.

“We are pleased to work closely with Natick and the Department of Defense in providing state of the art capabilities to meet the future requirements of the Department,” Alexium chief operating officer Stefan Susta said.

“Alexium remains committed to an ongoing collaboration with DoD and industry to transition technologies to the end user.”
