Alcoa still on top

ALCOA Australia and Hamersley Iron have maintained their dominance as the two largest exporters in WA for the 2000/2001 financial year.

According to the WA Business News’ Book of Lists 2002 list of the largest exporters in WA, Alcoa Australia was still on top with export revenue of $2.22 billion. Hamersley Iron was second with a recorded export revenue of $2 billion for the 2000/2001 financial year.

The list ranks companies that export goods or services from WA by export revenue for the financial year. Only Alcoa Australia (1), Hamersley Iron (2), Clough Limited (8) and Tiwest Joint Venture (10) maintained the same positions on the list when compared with the 2001 Book of Lists.

Woodside Energy displaced The Grain Pool of WA from third on the list, as its export revenue for 2001-02 increased significantly to $988.8 million from $686.6 million for the 1999/2000 financial year. The Grain Pool of WA slipped to seventh.

Other significant movements up the 2002 list came from Sons of Gwalia, which moved from 23rd last year to 13th as export revenue rose from $78 million to an estimated $218.1 million, and Pharmacia (Perth), which moved from 18th to 11th on the back of export revenue that rose to $248 million from $120 million.
