Academics short listed for national prize

UNIVERSITY of Western Australia academics Richard Bosworth and Pamela Statham-Drew have been shortlisted for the National Biography Award.

Professor Bosworth is a history professor at UWA and is one of the leading authorities on modern Italian history. His biography Mussolini has already been awarded the WA Premier’s Book Award (2002) and the Queensland Premier’s Literary Award in the History category (2003).

Dr Statham-Drew is a senior lecturer art UWA and has been short listed for her biography James Stirling Admiral and Founding Governor of Western Australia.

The seven-year work is a detailed investigation into James Stirling’s life from birth into one of Scotland’s oldest families, through to founder and governor of the Swan River Colony and, ultimately, to admiral and British naval chief in East Asia.
