Unlicensed dealer fined

Brent Ray Willoughby of Trigg has pleaded guilty in the Perth Court of Petty Sessions to unlicensed dealing under the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act 1973 and has been fined $1,500 with $15,700 in daily penalties and $300 costs.

Mr Willoughby, who has two previous convictions for similar offences, in 1991 and 1995, applied to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Licensing Board for a salesman’s licence in 1996 but was refused.

The maximum fine for unlicensed dealing is $3,000, plus $100 per day, but legislative amendments will provide for fines of up to $50,000 and penalties of $1,000 per day.

Firewood provider prosecuted

Orange Grove Garden and Wood Supply and its proprietor William Charles Thompson have been prosecuted in the Perth Court of Petty Sessions for supplying firewood that was not of the agreed amount and description.

Mr Thompson and his company were each fined $800 and $500 each in costs.

One customer had allegedly paid almost $200 for two tonnes of firewood, which was underweight by more than 600kg and not of the quality ordered and paid for.

This is the second time in two years that the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection has prosecuted Mr Thompson.

The first offence in May 2001 attracted an $800 fine and $396 in costs.
