ADCO has been contracted to build Western Power’s new Forrestdale hub, which will house 850 operational and service employees.

The $50 million South-Metro hub, to be located at 186 Anstey Road, is expected to open in early 2022.

ADCO, based in Kewdale, will employ 1,100 people to complete the construction work.

The new facility will bring employees from Western Power’s Kewdale, Mt Claremont, Forrestfield and Jandakot depots, as well as house a fleet of 450 heavy and light vehicles.

The facility will also have electric vehicle charging stations, a solar panel micro-grid and a grid transformation warehouse for research.

Plans for the new depot were announced by the state government mid-last year.

Energy Minister Bill Johnston said the facility supported Western Australia's transition towards a low carbon economy.

"Perth's new South-Metro depot will support the rapid transformation of our main electricity grid and the changing energy needs of Western Australians,” Mr Johnston said.

Jandakot MLA Yaz Mubarakai said the Forrestdale depot was an exciting project for the Jandakot region.
