AM Radio station 6PR has shown a strong increase in breakfast ratings, attracting a further 23,000 local listeners, according to the latest Neilsen Media Research Radio ratings.

The ratings, which recorded results in Perth from two periods, February 10 to March 15 and March 23 to April 26, showed that while 6PR grew well, AM rival ABC720 lost 124,000 listeners.

Despite the drop in numbers, ABC720 still held a strong advantage over 6PR, clearly taking out all time slots on the AM band, including the fiercely contested breakfast program.

6PR attracted a further 23,000 listeners from 5.30 to 9.00am, giving the station a total of 138,000, while ABC720 dropped 14,000 listeners to see its total number of listeners for the timeslot drop to 201,000.

On the FM dial, MIX 94.5 won the breakfast and morning time slots with 264,000 and 198,000 listeners respectively, despite a drop of 12,000 in total.

The big mover was 92.9, who had a further 19,000 people tune in to its breakfast program, taking their total number of listeners for the slot to 237,000.
