CREATIVE Nature Communications has won the top prize for its WA Museum Alcoa Frog Watch website at the 2008 WA Web Awards.

The awards, held last week at the University Club of WA, showcase the most innovative, effective and creative websites in the state across a broad field including business, government, education and blogging.

The WA Museum Alcoa Frog Watch site, which features an interactive multimedia library that lists all frog species in the state, won the award for best government website, as well as the FAST.hit Most Outstanding website prize.

Creative Nature lead developer Steven Taylor said it was vital to create a website that showcased the WA Museum's vast collection of media.

"That specific media content was integral in crafting a cutting-edge website that has now been named the best government site this year and the best overall," he said.

Awards judging chair Helen Burgess said this year's competition was tight, with all entrants engaging their respective audiences.

"All of the finalists have nailed it. They are not only built and coded correctly, they are very well designed and really 'stickable' sites," Ms Burgess said.

Awards were presented in 10 categories, including best retail, not for profit, virtual and student website.

Other winners included designer and developer Bam Creative, which picked up the best 'virtual' and 'innovation' website awards, as well as Curtin University of Technology, which won the award for best education website.

This year's awards were held in conjunction with the inaugural Edge of the Web conference.
