A total of 47 state sporting associations will share $7.2 million in funding over the next three years to help develop sport and recreation from grassroots to elite levels.

Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron made the announcement about the funding today at nib Stadium, joined by representatives from sports receiving the funds – ranging from football and netball through to skateboarding and surfing.

“This money will help state sporting associations stay sustainable by delivering a variety of activities and opportunities that address community in need, developing talent and enriching sporting culture, and encouraging maximum participation,” Mr Waldron said.

“The government is committed to working with sport and active recreation organisations to develop a philosophy of good governance and continuous improvement.

‘‘Western Australia continues to boast a strong sporting culture and vibrant state sporting associations have a lot to do with that.”

Some of the recipients include Westcycle, the WA Football Commission, Athletics WA, Basketball WA, WACA, Equestrian WA, Surfing WA, Skate Australia, Gymnastics WA and Football WA.
