40under40 commemorative - Strategic partners know success when they see it

In addition to the 40under40 awards, four special prizes were awarded by the program’s strategic alliance partners – the City of Perth, UWA Business School, Murdoch University and Edith Cowan University.

These prizes were based on each partner’s own criteria, and included a cash component.

Multi-arts organisation Artrage Inc. director and chief executive, Marcus Canning, was awarded the City of Perth award, presented by Perth Lord Mayor Peter Nattrass.

During the past four years, Mr Canning has managed a plan to diversify Artrage programs, develop a sustainable managed level for the organisation, invest in the development of a year-round venue and increase the income generation capacity of the organisation.

The UWA Business School award was presented to Angela Whittington, chief executive officer of diagnostic imaging company, Imaging the South, which operates in the South West and regional WA.

The award was presented by the school’s marketing manager and 2007 40under40 judge, Heather Merritt.

Ms Whittington restructured the company two months after she commenced work, to implement a sound, financially viable business model.

She was also a 40under40 award winner in 2002 and contributes to various community committees.

David Reid, owner of management consultancy David Reid Group, won the Murdoch University award, presented by the university’s vice-chancellor enterprise and international, Professor Gary Martin.

Mr Reid established his consultancy five years ago, with no background in management consultancy, and has developed a diverse and high-profile client base, as well as alliances with business partners in China and the UK.

The company aims to help businesses continue to grow through focusing on strategy, marketing, sales, people and technology.
Lisa Hutchinson, director of Advance Physiotherapy Services, was the winner of the ECU award, presented by ECU faculty of business and law executive dean, Robert Harvey, who was also a 40under40 judge for 2007.

Ms Hutchinson was just 23 years old when she established her business, a private physiotherapy practice, with her partner.

Despite having a limited business background, Ms Hutchinson was able to develop a strong client base in a competitive environment, to create the largest wholly-owned physiotherapy business in Australia.

Advance Physiotherapy Services operates 12 clinics in WA and one in NSW.
