A $400 million wind farm planned near Kojonup will head to the Development Assessment Panel in on December 6, eight years after it was reportedly first approved.

The project is led by Claremont-based Moonies Hill Energy, with advisors including Clifford Chance, Gresham Partners and Jacobs.

Development documents show the project will have a maximum capacity of 150 megawatts when it is completed, and will have 35 wind turbines supplied by manufacturer Vestas.

The wind farm will be built on a 6,500 hectare lot in the Shire of Broomehill-Tambellup, which recommended the regional joint development assessment panel approve the project.

A wave of renewable energy capacity has been commissioned in the South West Interconnected System, the state's main power grid, in the past two years.

Projects have included Alinta Energy’s Yandin wind farm, Bright Energy Investments’ Warradarge wind farm, and Risen Energy’s Merredin Solar.

Between those three developments, more than 500MW of renewable capacity was added to the network.

While Yandin and Warradarge are in the Mid West, Moonies’ plan would build the biggest wind project south of Perth so far.
