Construction is set to start this month on a new $32.5 million football centre in Queens Park, overseen by Perth-based builder Broad Construction.

It's hoped the centre will be game ready by mid-2023, in time to be used as a training venue for the nine international teams travelling to Perth for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023.

A total of five group-stage matches are set to be played at the Perth Rectangular Stadium, or HBF Park, between July 22 and August 3.

Perth-based Broad Construction was awarded a $31.2 million contract to oversee construction of the stadium in January, with federal and state governments each contributing $16.25 million towards the build.

Work on two floodlit pitches, change rooms and a gym, as well as administration facilities for Football West, are set to start later this month.

The venue will be able to host up to 700 spectators with a capacity of up to 2,000 through temporary seating.

It is set to cost $32.5 million to build overall.

Broadly, the build is also hoped to revitalise land at the Queens Park Open Space and provide a world-class sporting facility for football in the state.

“There has been great anticipation from the WA football community for the start of construction of the State Football Centre, and that excitement will increase as we watch it being built in the coming year,” Football West chief executive James Curtis said.

“The State Football Centre will provide WA football with a world-class facility and one that will connect all levels of the game and create a legacy for future generations.”

Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Minister Barnaby Joyce said the venue would attract more events to Perth, support tourism and boost jobs.

"We are getting the job done for Western Australians, delivering the infrastructure and facilities they need and deserve,” he said.

Former Perth Glory captain Jamie Harnwell was appointed chief executive of Football West in January.

He will replace outgoing CEO Mr Curtis at the end of this month.
