THE 2,000th taxi plate was released in Perth this month.
Transport Minister Troy Buswell said the awarding of the 2,000th plate was an important milestone to meet the increasing demand for taxi services.
“While this boost to taxi numbers will go a long way to improving services, we intend to gradually release more full-time lease plates until the industry can meet agreed performance targets,” he said.
Mr Buswell said the government was making changes to regulations to allow the additional release of up to 300 plates to meet demand.
The release of extra plates is part of the Government’s Taxi Action Plan to improve availability, safety and standards in the taxi industry.
