Battle for the Western Suburbs

Western Australia is shaping up to be a key battleground for the major parties at the upcoming federal election. Polls show the Labor opposition could make a strong showing in the state, while the government remains bullish of its chances here as it seeks a fourth term in office.

Amid the clamour for power, Perth’s most influential observers and decision makers will be glued to the race for Curtin. Held by the Liberal Party for 70 of the past 73 years, Curtin covers Perth’s affluent western suburbs and was home base to foreign minister and party stalwart Julie Bishop for close to two decades.

Incumbent Celia Hammond is facing a stiff challenge from Labor’s Yannick Spencer and independent candidate Kate Chaney, who are out in the electorate making their case to voters.

Stay up to date with the latest in the battle for Curtin by tuning in to this Business News-hosted debate to find out how they plan to represent you in Canberra.
