The final Perth and Peel @ 3.5million land use planning and infrastructure frameworks were recently released by the State Government. The frameworks define the urban form for the Perth and Peel regions for the next 30 years, limiting unplanned growth and encouraging greater housing diversity to meet our changing community needs. The frameworks, together with the plans for the sub-regions are to provide guidance and certainty to State Government agencies, local government and the development sector about where new homes and jobs will be located; how we will make best use of existing and proposed infrastructure; and which important environmental assets are to be protected.

Key to the achievement of the stated goals is a clear implementation plan, to ensure there is consistent understanding, adoption and implementation of the frameworks and plans by government agencies, local government and others. In particular, timely community education, incorporation into local town planning schemes and development of local structure/precinct plans will be vital to achieving the required balance of infill and Greenfield development going forward.

Join Gail McGowan (Director General, Department of Planning; Lands; Heritage) as she shares the Department’s implementation plan for the frameworks including how they are to be implemented through local planning schemes; structure plans and the like; and how the Department of Planning; Lands and Heritage will be supporting and monitoring this.

David Caddy, Chairman, WAPC; Ray Stokes, Executive Manager, Planning, Satterley; Paul Lakey, Regional General Manager – West (WA,SA,NT) PEET; Craig Shepherd, PwC, Director Infrastructure and Urban Renewal; Megan Adair, Project Director, Woodsome Management; and Ian Cowie, CEO, City of Gosnells; will then join the panel to further discuss the opportunities & complexities surrounding the frameworks’ implementation.
