WA’s Unconventional Gas Future
Energy Futures Series, Part 3

Overview

Join CEDA for a keynote presentation by Todd Creeger, President, Australia - West, ConocoPhillips, and a panel of experts as we discuss Western Australia's unconventional gas sector.

Recent innovations such as hydraulic fracturing and directional drilling have made unconventional gases, such as shale gas and coal-bed methane, cost-effective to produce, and supplies are plentiful.

Western Australia, which already produces 65 per cent of Australia's total gas production, is estimated to have twice as much shale gas reserve as conventional gas; enough to secure our domestic energy future.

The availability of increasingly competitive gas is vital in moving from away from coal-generated energy. Yet growing concerns over environmental impacts and water contamination threaten the potential of this industry, along with competition from the US.

What future pathway can make WA's unconventional gas industry viable?
