Stephen Smith, Independent Representative to Lavan Legal’s Advisory Board

Stephen has had an impressive 30 year career working at the most senior levels in Australian government and politics.  His most recent appointments were Minister for Defence 2010-2013 and Minister for Foreign Affairs 2007-2010.

Stephen was Senior Advisor to Paul Keating whilst Paul held the offices of Treasurer and Prime Minister.  Earlier roles included Principal Private Secretary to WA Attorney-General and State Secretary of the WA Labor Party.  Whilst in opposition, shadow portfolios included Trade, Resources and Energy, Communications, Health, Immigration and Industry, Infrastructure and Industrial Relations.
