A kaleidoscope of colour and culture, the annual Shinju Matsuri - Japanese for “Festival of the Pearl” – is a celebration of Japanese, Chinese, Malaysian and Aboriginal cultures that shaped Broome during the peak of the prosperous pearl industry. Now in it’s 46th year, Shinju Matsuri is a nine-day festival with over 20 events, which starts with the ceremonial waking of Sammy the Chinese Dragon. Highlights include the Floating Lantern Matsuri where hundreds of candle-lit lanterns containing special messages are released, a Sunset Long Table dinner set on the sand on Cable Beach, art exhibitions and awards, a float parade, film, music, dance, mardi gras, family and community events, food, and a Festival Finale party.

Shinju Matsuri will tempt your senses with an exciting whirlwind of colour, sound, taste and smell as the community shares this beautiful locale with the world and the people who call it home.
