Our speaker for September is Peter Walker.

Peter Walker is a highly experienced mining industry professional and management consultant with diversified experience across the oil & gas, rail, automotive and electronics industries. Peter’s industry career focused on the leadership of several significant operations where he utilised Lean methodologies to drive a step improvement in performance whilst ensuring sustainability through associated culture change. As a manager for a major gold mining company, Peter was responsible for the integration of a large remote mine site (~700koz) into the business which included facilitation of the annual business planning process and cost improvement activities delivering circa $140M. Prior to this offshore assignment, Peter was an integral part of a small team responsible for the development and deployment of a company-wide business transformation program. During his time as a management consultant, Peter continued working within the mining sector (coal, zinc/lead, iron ore and gold), facilitating several significant performance improvement programs for major mining companies including RioTinto, Glencore and BMA. Prior to his consultancy career, Peter held several operational roles within the electronics industry during which time he experienced first-hand the Lean tools and techniques at a shopfloor level. Then through a 5-year career with Toyota Motor Company, Peter gained a deeper understanding of Lean principles and methodology through management roles in production and new product introduction within the body manufacturing division.
