AmCham's Meet the Minister Series provides senior business executives and officers of the Chamber the privilege and benefit of hearing an "off the record" background briefing by the Minister on important matters of state.

The Hon. Bill Marmion MLA is the Minister for State Development; Finance. Minister Marmion will highlight how a decade of resources-led economic, population and cultural growth has changed the State, and the opportunities now ahead. How we build on our historic strengths and capitalise on these changes will guide Western Australia's growth for decades to come. He will outline the Government's vision for the State and how deregulation and cutting red tape is empowering the private sector to help create new jobs and stronger communities.

The Hon. Bill Marmion MLA, has a long family record of service to the people and State of Western Australia. During the 1840s, his great-great grandfather, Patrick Marmion, was involved in one of the colony's first mining ventures and became a prominent businessman. In 1890, his great grandfather was made WA's first Minister for Mining.

A civil engineer by profession, The Hon. Bill Marmion MLA spent many years working for Main Roads WA. Much of his time was spent in the regions, particularly the Goldfields and the Kimberley. This experience has given him first-hand knowledge of many of the environments he now works in.

As an engineer, the Minister served as President of the WA Division of Engineers Australia and for 3 years prior to entering Parliament in 2008, was Chairman of the Engineering Excellence Awards for the State.

Leaving the public service he co-founded consultancy firm Syme-Marmion, which specialised in strategic planning and financial analysis work for both government and the private sector. He left the firm and was elected as Member for Nedlands in 2008.

Since then, Minister Marmion has served in a range of roles including Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Minister for Commerce; Science and Innovation; Housing; Minister Assisting the Treasurer; Minister for Water and the Environment; and Minister for Mines and Petroleum.

In his current portfolios, he is committed to ensuring strong state development and Government finance outcomes to further broaden the Western Australian economy.
