Perth is one of the cities taking part in the global ‘Big Data Week’ event and to support BDW iVEC, a national supercomputing facility based in Perth has planned a week-long program of events that include presentations, networking opportunities and activities which will look at some of the challenges and opportunities presented by the growth of Big Data.

To start with the University of Western Australia, Curtin and Edith Cowan Universities will host a lunch time series of presentations and demonstrations. Each event will be followed by lunch and discussions.

These events are open to everyone from research, business, and community to share success stories, best practices, failures, cautionary tales, and future developments in big data.

This event will kicked off with a presentation entitled “Underwater stereo-video and tools for managing big marine data” provided by Professor Euan Harvey from the Oceans Institute, UWA

This will be followed by a demonstration of big data tool (under development) entitled CATAMI, which will show how data marine data (images and video) can be accessed and annotated for key features. Further information from Project CATAMI is available here – http://catami-australia.blogspot.com.au

This is a free event, however to attend please register at: http://www.amiando.com/BIGFISHDATAUWA
