AmCham's Women in Leadership group, Chartered Accountants ANZ and Australian Institute of Company Directors are joining forces to deliver a Financial Toolbox series.

The aim of the workshops is to equip women with greater financial power through knowledge.

According to Roy Morgan research, a typical Australian woman holds barely more than half the superannuation savings of a man, and retires with a third less savings than her male friends. Women under 35 have little over half the average assets of their male counterparts, and the disparity in wealth between the genders across all age groups continues to grow. This limits women’s life choices and makes many women in violent or abusive relationships financially vulnerable.

The Women’s Financial Toolbox series will provide enjoyable, interactive and independent workshops, facilitated by some of Perth’s leading financial experts, to give you the tools you need to set yourself up financially and protect yourself into the future.

PROTECT YOURSELF

The second part of this two-part series focuses on how you can protect yourself from unexpected issues you may face in your life. Unexpected circumstances can have a big impact on your finances. However, there are ways that you can protect yourself from a number of life situations, and in this set of three workshops, we will equip you with the knowledge and skills that you can choose to use in order to minimise personal risk and maximise your options should something untoward occur.

Each of our workshop sessions will commence with a presentation from a keynote expert, followed by a discussion session that will see a number of skilled specialists assisting participants by giving focused pointers and answering specific questions to smaller tables of attendees, moving around the room at regular intervals.

Personal Insurance

Could you keep on top of all of your monthly bills, mortgages and payments if your income stopped due to accident or illness? What would happen if you or your partner could not work all of a sudden?

Alarmingly, one in three Australians will be off work for more than three months during their working life, due to accident or illness, and less than one in ten Australians have Income Protection or other insurance that would protect them from financial hardship during this period of inability to work. Most Australians have home or car insurance and possibly health insurance, but what about the range of other personal insurances that are available and should be considered?

In this session, attendees will be taken through the variety of options open for Income Protection, Critical Illness and Trauma, Total and Permanent Disability and Life Insurance; and what options they should consider to ensure financial stability through accident or illness.

Our keynote presenters for this workshop are:

Alex Rothon, Private Wealth Manager - Insurance, Commonwealth Private

Kerry Franklin, Financial Advice Specialist, Wealth and Security Planners
