R-Codes control residential development throughout Western Australia.

The new provisions of the R-Codes for multiple dwellings and mixed used developments address the need to encourage housing diversity, affordability and flexibility and aim to improve the quality of multiple dwelling developments in line with contemporary planning needs.

With the introduction of EPRA and MRA as well as local government authorities, WA has seen a significant move to precinct planning for designated activity centres and locations. These are prepared to coordinate and integrate land-use development, urban design elements, and infrastructure improvements and transport networks within designated precinct areas, such as Subiaco, East Perth, South Perth, Applecross and Claremont.
