Join AmCham as we hear from The Hon Christian Porter MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister of Australia and the Federal Member for the electorate of Pearce in Western Australia as he addresses AmCham on the Deregulation of Red Tape.

Prior to winning the seat of Pearce at the 2013 Federal Election, Christian served as a Minister in the State Government, variously holding portfolios of Attorney General, Minister for Corrective Services and Treasurer of Western Australia.

As Attorney General, Christian managed a legislative agenda that decreased reported crime by 10 per cent in the State Government's first year in office. As Treasurer, he delivered successive budget surpluses in Australia's fastest growing economy and budgeted for the provision of $600 million to revitalise the Western Australian not-for-profit sector. Christian was also responsible for the largest infrastructure program in Western Australia's history and was the architect of the $1 billion Western Australian Future Fund.

On Tuesday, 23 December 2014, Christian was sworn in as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister of Australia by the Governor General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd).

In his new role, Christian has specific responsibility for implementing the Government's deregulation agenda. He will oversee the Government's plan to reduce the regulatory burden on individuals, small business and not-for-profits and to change the culture towards regulation. This involves leading two parliamentary repeal days every year to cut $1 billion in unnecessary and costly legislation and regulation.

In addition, Christian also has responsibility for the honours and symbols policy in the Prime Minister's portfolio and holds governance responsibilities for the National Australia Day Council.
