From 27 January to 5 February 2017, Perth will celebrate Chinese New Year #WACNY2017, the Year of the Fire Rooster, with the sights, sounds and tastes of Asia. This spectacular 10-day festival features a range of colourful and unique daytime and evening events spanning across four zones from the hub at Elizabeth Quay, Northbridge, Forrest Place and Brookfield Place.

Ancient customs meet modern innovation at Elizabeth Quay, the #WACNY2017 hub, where the Perth riverfront is illuminated by 12 giant inflatable Zodiac lanterns featuring a six-metre Golden Rooster. To mark the Year of the Rooster, visitors can engage with a vibrant interactive lantern wall display that changes colour and formation at a touch, or marvel at exciting displays of traditional dancing, music and tai chi. Learn the secrets of Chinese cuisine with a variety of chef cooking demonstrations and indulge your taste buds at the Asian Street Food Market. The hub will also feature the #WACNY2017 Photographic Exhibition “Kiss the Sun, Marry the Moon”, a collection of vintage black and white portraits of prominent Chinese migrants and contemporary portraits of local community members.

At Forrest Place, visitors can wander through a red lantern-strewn Twilight Hawkers Market while taking in the GPO Building Projection Show “The Folktale” depicting the legend of the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals

Other festival highlights include a Chinese Fashion and Design Exhibition at Brookfield Place and the Chung Wah Association’s Chinese New Year Fair in Northbridge.
