"The Perth Wave Energy Project: Carnegie’s First Grid-Connected Project”

Michael is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Australian-based, ASX-listed wave energy developer Carnegie Wave Energy Limited. Carnegie has developed its proprietary CETO Wave Energy technology from Proof of Concept, through a Pilot Plant phase and into its current Commercial Demonstration stage in which the company will deliver the Perth Wave Energy Project at Australia’s largest navy base.

As CEO, Michael has the acquisition of the CETO intellectual property, raised over $50 million in equity from institutional and retail investors, seen an increase in market capitalisation from $5m to $50m and secured more than $20 million in grant funding from Australian, Canadian and French governments. He also negotiated the first CETO technology licence agreement with French power utility EDF.

Michael has a Bachelor of Engineering at the Western Australian School of Mines in Kalgoorlie, a Master’s of Science in Hamburg and a Doctorate in Business Administration in Melbourne. He joined Carnegie in January 2006 as General Manager of Technology and Innovation, became CEO in August 2006 and was appointed to the Board of Directors as Managing Director in March 2007. 

Michael was previously a Senior Manager in KPMG’s Business Performance Service division in Melbourne and, prior to this, a departmental head at Hofmann Engineering in Perth. He has also been a Board Member of the Clean Energy Council, Australia’s clean energy peak industry group, and a member of the Australian Government’s Energy White Paper High Level Consultative Committee.
