Join CEDA for this unique insight into Australian foreign policy as the Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Varghese AO, takes to the lectern for this exclusive keynote address. Australia – and in particular, Western Australia – has enormous potential to capitalise on the changing nature of the global landscape, with the shift in power towards Asia and the emergence of Africa. How will DFAT’s policies advance our interests in these key markets?

In a wide-reaching presentation, Peter will outline the opportunities and challenges Australia will face in the context of:

  • Australia’s role in the Indian Pacific and East Asian regions
  • Trade links and agreements, particularly with China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Africa
  • Australia hosting the G20 summit in 2014
  • Australia’s involvement in the Security Council of the United Nations
