AmCham Business Briefing with guest speaker James Carouso, Charge' d'Affaires, U.S. Embassy

Now more than ever, the U.S.-Australia alliance is about doing business, and doing it together. The United States is Australia’s largest foreign investor as well as the number one destination for Australian investment.

Chargé d’Affaires Jim Carouso will give an overview of the strong trade and investment links between our two countries and highlight key areas where the U.S. Mission in Australia and AmCham are cooperating to promote future economic growth.

Although the bilateral relationship was cemented decades ago, the U.S.-Australia economic alliance should not be viewed as a relic or as a relationship of the past, but rather a dynamic one that continually grows and strengthens, and one that fosters innovation and creativity between the two partners.

James Carouso became Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy Canberra in July 2016. Mr. Carouso is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor.

Following a fourteen year career in international banking and finance, Mr. Carouso joined the U.S. Department of State in 1995. Since then he has served in a variety of economic and commercial roles in the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Australia, Thailand and Cyprus, including acting as a member of the U.S. teams negotiating Free Trade Agreements in Australia and Thailand. Mr. Carouso served as the Counselor for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta.

Prior to his assignment in Australia, Mr. Carouso served as Director of the State Department Office responsible for relations with the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and East Timor.

Mr. Carouso holds a degree in Economics from Hamilton College and a Masters in International Finance from the American Graduate School of International Management.
